Salish Sea Expeditions

Spring 2007, Fall 2007 
Program content:
-  Introduction to basic scientific method,
-  Inquiry based program - utilized in classroom and field activities to support student development of a marine biology experiment
-  Provide students with the opportunity to implement scientific method on a project of their choice over the course of a 3 – 5 day trip around the San Juan Islands, Washington State

Student Demographics:
-  5th -12th grade student groups – 15 – 20 students per group, for more information please visit the organization website
-  Education trips were 3 – 5 days

Primary responsibilities:
-  Organized and presented background information on marine biology of the Salish Sea and Puget Sound, Washington State
-  Instructed students in proper usage of scientific equipment maintained aboard the SSV Carlyn
-  Introduced students to basics of sailing

Sound Experience

Fall 2004, Spring 2005, Fall 2005, Summer 2006 
Program content:
-  Sailing/ecology educational program that runs short (3 hr day sail) to multiday (3-7 days) programs
-  Provides organized activities and lessons as a basic introduction to marine ecology of the Puget Sound, Washington
-  Provide students with the opportunity to participate in group activities designed to foster stewardship, for more information visit their website. 
-  Introduction to basic sailing skills aboard the tallship
SSV Adventuress
Student Demographics:
-       3 hr. public day sail programs open to the public, 40 participants per trip
-       3 hr. school day sail programs – elementary through high school age groups – 40 participants per trip
-       3 – 5 day school day sail programs – elementary through high school age groups – 20 participants per trip
-       3 – 5 day Elderhostel sail programs open to seniors – 20 participants per trip

Primary responsibilities:
-       Organized and presented background information on marine biology of the Salish Sea and Puget Sound, Washington State

-       Instructed students in proper, safe sailing methods aboard the SSV Adventuress
-       Taught students to basics of sailing and local marine ecology
